July’s Blend Prompt Card was all about slowing down a little, and I’ve found that really helpful. However, slowing down has also made me think a bit more about where I’m putting my attention.
One thing I’ve noticed about myself lately is that even when I make a conscious effort not to rush quite so much, it’s still surprisingly easy for my attention to end up spread across lots of different things. I have more ideas than I could possibly work on, a notebook full of projects I’d love to make, and a planner that’s always a little fuller than I’d like it to be. None of those things are bad in themselves – I actually love having lots of ideas – but I’ve realized that when my attention is spread too thin, I don’t enjoy any of them quite as much.
I start thinking about the next project before I’ve finished the one I’m working on. I catch myself wondering how quickly I can get something finished instead of simply enjoying the process of creating it. Then, before long, I have lots of things moving forward… but not many that feel like they’ve had my full attention.
That’s really what inspired this month’s Blend Prompt Card.
As always, it’s simply three prompts to help you blend planning, reflection, and creativity in a way that feels natural. There’s no right way to use them, and no expectation that you’ll complete them all. They’re just a gentle invitation to pause for a little while and notice where your attention wants to go this month.

I don’t know about you, but when I start feeling overwhelmed, my first instinct is usually to try to become more organized. I’ll make another list, rearrange my planner, or convince myself that if I can just get through the next few days, everything will feel more manageable.
Sometimes that helps. However, more often than not, the problem isn’t actually my planner. It’s that my attention has become scattered across too many different things.
I’m thinking about work while I’m trying to relax, planning my next project while I’m still working on the current one, or jumping between tasks because it feels productive, even though I know I’d probably enjoy the process a lot more if I simply stayed with one thing for a while.
That’s what these August prompts are really about. Not becoming more productive. Just becoming a little more intentional about where our attention goes.
I really like this prompt because it isn’t asking me what I need to finish.
I already know there will always be another project waiting for me, another idea I’d love to explore, or another task I could add to my planner. Instead, it’s asking a slightly different question. Out of everything competing for my attention right now, what would actually make the biggest difference if I gave it my focus for a little while?
For me, that might mean choosing one creative project and seeing it through without constantly switching to something else. It might mean giving my business planning my full attention for a few hours instead of trying to answer emails, design something new, update my website and think about next month’s ideas all at once.
I’ve found that when I stop trying to focus on everything, I actually enjoy what I’m doing so much more, and the work often flows better too.
This prompt made me think for quite a while because there are so many different ways to answer it.
Sometimes what’s asking for our attention is something practical. A habit we’ve been meaning to get back to. A project that’s quietly waiting for us to return to it.
Other times it’s something we’ve been too busy to pay attention to.
Maybe we’re feeling more tired than we realized. Maybe we’ve been ignoring our creativity because life has been busy. Or perhaps there’s something we’ve been thinking about for weeks that keeps gently nudging its way back into our minds.
I don’t think we always need to go searching for the answer. Often, if we sit down with our journal for a few minutes, it has a way of finding us.
I love that this month’s creative prompt is so simple.
Choosing just one color might sound limiting at first, but I actually think it does the opposite. When you remove the decision of which colors to use, you suddenly start noticing texture, pattern, shape and layering instead.
You might collect papers in different shades of green, work with soft blues, warm browns or muted pinks. You could use pens, paint, collage, stickers, washi tape or whatever you already have nearby. The color itself doesn’t really matter.
What matters is giving yourself one simple creative constraint and seeing where it takes you. Sometimes fewer choices leave more room for creativity.

One of the things I love about Journablend is that planning, reflection and creativity don’t have to happen separately. They naturally support one another, and I’ve found that when one area starts to feel stuck, another often helps me move forward again.
This month, all three prompts are really connected by the idea of attention.
You might use the Plan prompt in your dated planner as you decide what deserves your focus over the next few weeks. You could explore the Reflect prompt in your Daily BlendBook and see what keeps coming up as you write. Then you might spend some time in your Mini BlendBook, choosing a single color and simply enjoying the creative process without worrying about the finished page.
Or you might blend all three together.
That’s really the heart of The Blend Flow. It’s not about following a system perfectly. It’s about using planning, journaling and creativity together in whatever way helps you feel a little more connected to your days.

The August Blend Prompt Card is available now inside the Planner Lovers Resource Library and through my free Patreon community.
Print it, tuck it into your planner, keep it beside your journal, or simply save it somewhere you’ll see it throughout the month.
I’ve realized lately that attention is one of the most valuable things we have, and it’s surprisingly easy to give it away without even noticing. This month’s prompts are my little reminder to gently bring it back to the things that matter most.
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Which of the August prompts speaks to you the most, and where do you think your attention wants to go this month?
